(b) Early Voting In Ohio Kicks Off With One Big Clue

Early voting in Ohio has begun with election data experts tracking turnout numbers that show potentially lower-than-expected Democratic participation in key counties compared with 2024, while Florida’s mail ballot returns reveal a shift in the composition of voters submitting ballots early.Election officials and data analysts are closely monitoring the initial days of early voting as voters begin casting ballots ahead of Election Day. The first wave of voting data offers early signals about turnout levels and voter engagement this cycle. In Ohio, Hamilton County (the Cincinnati area) recorded 2,359 in-person votes cast on the first day of early voting. An election data expert tracking voting patterns noted that this total was significantly below expectations, marking a 29 percent decline compared with the same day in 2024, when 3,309 votes had been cast. “Hamilton still has NOT uploaded their raw voter files from yesterday so I can’t check demographic date,” the analyst posted on X.

Using available data models, the analyst projected that Hamilton County could see approximately 68,000 total in-person early votes cast, compared with 96,000 in 2024. The difference could reflect normal midterm-year patterns, where early voting typically represents a smaller share of total votes than in presidential years. Early voting accounted for 32 percent of total votes in 2018 and 2022, but reached 40 percent in 2024.
