Born on May 12, 2007, in New York City—two weeks early during a charity event—she is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump (née Haydon). Her unique first name honors her maternal grandfather, Danish jazz musician Kai Ewans. Raised primarily in Florida, Kai grew up surrounded by siblings and spent time with her grandparents, Donald and Melania Trump.
Though the Trump name placed her in the public eye early, especially during the 2016 campaign, she largely maintained a low profile through childhood, focusing on school and family traditions. Her first notable public appearance came at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where, at 17, she delivered a heartfelt, unscheduled speech.
In her RNC remarks, Kai painted a warm, relatable portrait of her grandfather. “To me, he’s just a normal grandpa,” she said. “He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.” She shared how he proudly printed her high honor roll to show friends and called during class to chat about golf—only for her to remind him she needed to focus on lessons.
Golf has become Kai’s defining personal pursuit. She began playing young and has competed in junior events through the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and South Florida PGA circuits. She has posted solid local results, including club championships at Trump International Golf Club Palm Beach, and helped her high school team at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens achieve multiple district titles.
A major milestone came in November 2025 when Kai, then 18 and a high school senior, made her LPGA Tour debut at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican Golf Club via a sponsor invitation. Facing a stacked professional field, she opened with a 13-over 83 and followed with an improved 5-over 75, finishing last but gaining valuable experience. Annika Sorenstam herself noted Kai’s maturity and curiosity.
The genuine anecdotes from her RNC speech resonated widely, humanizing the former (and now current) president and showcasing Kai’s composure on a national stage. She handled the nerves and scrutiny of her LPGA debut gracefully, later reflecting on the challenge.
Kai’s close bond with her grandfather remains evident. He attends her matches when possible, offers loud encouragement, and they occasionally play together—though she says she doesn’t let his competitive teasing rattle her. This supportive relationship stands out amid the intense public attention surrounding the Trump family.
In August 2024, Kai verbally committed to play collegiate golf for the University of Miami Hurricanes (class of 2026), and she officially signed her national letter of intent in November 2025. The move keeps her in South Florida, where she attends The Benjamin School and maintains strong academics. Beyond competition, she has built a growing social media presence, sharing golf highlights, training insights, and everyday moments with a positive, grounded tone.
At 18, Kai stands at an exciting juncture. With college golf on the horizon, potential NIL opportunities—she has already partnered with major brands like TaylorMade—and proven poise in high-pressure settings, she is carving a path that honors her family legacy while pursuing her own goals. Whether on the course, in front of cameras, or with family, Kai Trump demonstrates that talent and hard work can shine through even the brightest family glare. As she heads to the University of Miami, her next chapter remains one to watch closely.
